چکیده
Vector surveillance is crucial for implementation of appropriate vector control strategies to reduce the transmission vector-borne diseases such as dengue, a major public health concern in Sri Lanka. Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus are primary secondary vectors dengue virus, respectively. Dengue endemic Jaffna District presence from many water bodies, including brackish habitats, reported. The use environmental DNA (eDNA) has emerged novel tool detect identify species present any aquatic environment. This study, used determine different habitats Municipal limits District. Potential pre-imaginal developmental sites were identified randomly selected 10 blocks consisting at least 40 houses within study location. One hundred twenty samples without visible preimaginal forms collected these extract eDNA. PCR assays performed using species-specific primers designed albopictus. was 12 (10.0%) 30 (25.0%), both detected nine (7.5%). salinity which ranged 0–7 gL-1. results revealed that eDNA an indirect but valid monitoring mosquitos

Detection of Invasive Mosquito Vectors Using Environmental DNA (eDNA) from Water Samples
Repeated introductions and spread of invasive mosquito species (IMS) have been recorded on a large scale these last decades worldwide. In this context, members of the mosquito genus Aedes can present serious risks to public health as they have or may develop vector competence for various viral diseases. While the Tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) is a well-known vector for e.g. dengue and chiku...
متن کاملPrevalence and insecticide susceptibility of dengue vectors in the district of Batticaloa in eastern Sri Lanka
Unprecedented incidences of dengue have been reported in Sri Lanka in recent years. The district of Batticaloa, which was devastated by the 2004 Asian tsunami, is one of the districts affected by dengue. One option to curtail this disease is to implement appropriate vector control measures. A nine-month study was carried out within the Batticaloa Municipal Council limit from April to December 2...

Spatial-Temporal Clustering Characteristics of Dengue in the Northern Region of Sri Lanka, 2010-2013
Dengue outbreaks are affected by biological, ecological, socio-economic and demographic factors that vary over time and space. These factors have been examined separately and still require systematic clarification. The present study aimed to investigate the spatial-temporal clustering relationships between these factors and dengue outbreaks in the northern region of Sri Lanka. Remote sensing (R...
